What is sexual harassment?
Sexual Harassment is severe or pervasive unwanted behavior that is sexual in nature. The New Jersey Law Against Discrimination (NJLAD) prohibits sexual harassment and workplace gender discrimination.
Employers have a Duty to StOP Discrimination
Employers must institute effective policies in the workplace that protect employees from discrimination and harassment. Failure to have an effective anti-discrimination policy may cause an employer to be in violation of the NJLAD.
What does Sexual Harassment look like?
Sexual harassment can include unwanted sexual advances, unwanted physical touching, and/or unwanted sexual comments. Unwanted sexual comments need not be directed specifically at you for the comments to qualify as harassment.
Examples of sexual harassment can include:
Hair touching, leg touching, attempting to kiss, or engaging in or attempting to engage in any sexual conduct;
Showing pornography;
Making sexual jokes or telling lewd stories;
Physically blocking another’s movements so that your body is forced into close proximity with another;
giving unwanted excessive attention.
